The invention relates to a method for selecting images in a target image set including at least one image, the method comprising- for each image: 

• providing said image to an object detection model, an output including, for each detected object, an inferred class and an inferred bounding box

• for each detected object, computing a class uncertainty based on: 

  - a value of a predetermined uncertainty heuristic; and 

  - at least one class-related quantile (qc)

• for each detected object, computing bounding box uncertainties based on: o a prediction set of classes; and o at least one bounding box-related quantile (qb);
• computing an image uncertainty score based on the class uncertainty and the bounding box uncertainties computed for at least one detected object of said image
• selecting each image of the target dataset having an image uncertainty score that satisfies a predetermined criterion.
