The TANGO project, coordinated by R&D Spain colleagues from Applied AI and involving the Identity Management & Privacy team, have successfully carried out the evaluation of the Smart Hospitality pilot at the beginning of May.

TANGO is a pioneering EU-funded initiative dedicated to secure, trustworthy, and environmentally sustainable data management. During this crucial pilot phase, cutting-edge solutions were showcased, and some partners took on the roles of hotel guests in sunny Mallorca.

A core achievement of the Mallorca pilot, with support from ATOS, was the successful demonstration of Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) with our uSelf Agent Asset acting as the issuer. This innovative component enabled the secure issuance of ePassport Verifiable Credentials (VCs) directly from an ePassport reader on a mobile device to an individual's Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) wallet, as well as organizational customer and employee credentials.

This credential was then seamlessly utilized for obtaining further credentials such as the Customer Credentials and also accessing online services, including streamlined check-in procedures, over the FIWARE Data Space Connector.

The TANGO solution has proven effective in providing personalized experiences for guests while ensuring robust data security and privacy for all stakeholders. The integrated system promises to reduce resource waste and streamline operations for hospitality providers by enabling seamless and privacy-preserving data exchanges between customers, hosts, and tour operators.

TANGO's broader mission is to establish stronger, cross-sector data sharing in a citizen-centric and secure manner. Through the development of innovative solutions for distributed, privacy-preserving data management and a robust trust framework, TANGO seeks to boost data sovereignty and promote trustworthy digital interactions across society.

The successful pilot in Mallorca marks a significant step toward achieving these goals and showcases the real-world applicability and positive impact of the TANGO framework in a vital European industry. Further pilots are underway in diverse sectors, including autonomous vehicles, smart manufacturing, and banking.
